Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe's Annual Gala celebrates the enduring legacy of Nikola Tesla and honors modern innovators who exemplify his spirit of invention. The event spotlights the forthcoming developments at Wardenclyffe, including the expansion of STEAM programs and the anticipated opening of the Eugene Sayan Visitor Center in 2024. Through the gala, the center aims to raise funds to support these initiatives and further its mission of promoting science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) education, while safeguarding Tesla's legacy.

Tesla Lifetime Achievement Award

This award recognizes an individual that embodies Nikola Tesla’s spirit of innovation and has worked over their career for the betterment of humanity.

HONORING: DR. YACOV A. SHAMASH
(Life Fellow, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, U.K., in 1973. He is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering with Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY, USA, where he was the Founder of the New York State Center for Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology, and the New York State Center for Excellence in Advanced Energy Research and Technology. He has previously served as the Vice President for Economic Development, the Dean of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Dean of the Harriman School for Management and Policy. Prior to joining Stony Brook University, he developed and directed the National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for the Design of Analog/Digital Integrated Circuits and also served as the Chairman of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Washington State University, Pullman, WA, USA. Dr. Shamash serves on the Board of Directors of Comtech Telecommunications Corporation, KeyTronic Corporation, and Applied DNA Sciences, Inc.

Tesla Innovator of the Year Award

The Innovator of the Year Award is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions to their field in a Tesla related technology.

HONORING: PROF. CHAD BOUTON, FEINSTEIN INSTITUTES FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH, NORTHWELL HEALTH
For more than two decades, Prof. Bouton has conducted cutting-edge research while pioneering disruptive technologies with more than 70 patents in cancer, diabetes, heart failure, and paralysis. In 2016, Prof. Bouton published groundbreaking results in Nature that demonstrated the restoration of thought-driven movement in a paralyzed human for the first time. More recently, he and his colleagues have developed a ‘double neural bypass’ that restores the sense of touch and lasting movement by linking the brain, body, and spinal cord through brain implants and artificial intelligence. Prof. Bouton has received many professional awards and recognized by the U.S. Congress for his significant contributions to science and multiple fields in medicine and technology.

Rising Star Award

The Rising Star Award acknowledges an individual who is working to create change and be a disruptor in their space.

HONORING: SAMMY CHU, EDGEWISE ENERGY
A proven leader in promoting market adoption of energy efficiency, Sammy was the founding director of the Town of Babylon’s Long Island Green Homes Program, the first operationalized property assessed clean energy (PACE) program in the country.
